I'm working on trying to solve a problem with a VPN that I've set up for a customer of mine. They are running Norton 360 or Norton Internet Security on their computers. There is no issue with the client computer connecting to the VPN, which I've verified by being able to utilise a printer on the LAN when connected to the VPN. However, we are unable to access a shared drive on a peer computer on the network that's also running Norton 360.
So for I've tried trying to add the VPN connected computer to trusted networks using IP address of the VPN client computer, the MAC address of the VPN connection and various firewall rules that I thought should allow the connection to take place. So far the "server" computer that the shared folder is on is blocking any and all connection attempts and yielding completely useless log information. [Why in the world does Norton need over a hundred firewall rules to operate?!?! - rhetorical question, don't want an answer to this, just frustrated.]
Both computers are running Windows Vista with latest patches/service packs installed. I'm getting to the point that I'm going to recommend the removal of Norton products from the server computer and replace it with something else (I've had good luck with Avast in the recent past, but would test with a trial version to ensure resolution). I've searched these boards and the internet and I can't seem to find anything that's relevant to the resolution of this issue. Before I go the removal route, does anyone have any recommendations on how to fix this problem without removing Norton?
Thanks,
Brian
