Have been having some minor problems with my connection to the internet being intermittently denied over the last few days. The block seems to occur during a download of SymDaemon.bundle (via symantec.georedirector.akadns.net). I need to quit and restart my browser (or reboot) to get the connection working again.
There is no sign of the Daemon update in the log (which is probably normal) but the log does show that it’s DNS (port 53 - outgoing) being blocked which kills the connection. It also says it’s a ‘User defined rule’. I’m wondering what might cause this as I don’t have DNS port 53 blocked in either the incoming or outgoing section of the Connection Blocking panel. (Some other ports are though). Any thoughts as to why this might be happening?
Thanks
ps; Clicked on ‘update everything now’ about 5 minutes ago. The Virus and Anti-phishing defs downloaded ok but again, my browser would not connect to the net without rebooting my computer.
"There shouldn't be any rules defined in there."
Oops didn't know that. I had a number of blocked services in the Outgoing section. I decided to experiment and yesterday deleted 3 of them. A couple were file sharing and although they were not using port 53 it seems they were the source of the disruption. Since then I haven't had any more connection problems. Thanks for your feedback. It was helpful.
