Thanks for the update.
Hi floplot,
I have a router, so is that good enough protection for when have to turn off Norton Smart Firewall?
Are any of you having this issue here using a Ad Blocker?
I'm asking, as my significant other lives on Facebook, I have her set up on Chrome with Ublock Origin "Ad blocker" and have NS installed on that machine, with Windows 10 Creators update, Norton Extensions disabled, and she is having no issues rendering FB or uploading.
Facebook is a series of background communications with other 3rd party sites.
If you use Firefox, you can use a extension like "Lightbeam" that will not only allow you to see these communications, but to block them also as needed, one could use this tool to narrow down which 3rd party site may be causing the issue.
Facebook, like many other sites, is always changing things around in the background, adding and taking away. This may not be the fault of NS what so ever, especially if it just started recently for all of you, and it is not effecting any other sites.
Hello Switch0r
You should still get a router so that you have the protection it gives you unless your modem is a modem/router. A modem/router is one where you can go on the web and get to the settings for the modem/router.
Thanks.
Pinged Norton and they are still looking into and sent them more logs etc. Not moving too fast.
Luckily, we are not having all of the problems reported here, only the ability to upload files to facebook. The work around for now is the same....temporarily disable the firewall. Friends are wondering why we are using Norton's and recommending we switch to a less costly product that doesn't have this problem.
Disable the norton firewall while you are on facebook, its the only solution for me and i am connected with a cable to a modem so no router.
This is on a low priority for Norton, i just hope its fixed in a few months so i dont need to buy another antivirus software.
Ditto on the issue here too. It's driving me nuts. I've reset router and modem more than I care to count. Emptied cache and cookies, the whole works. Facebook works fine for 10 minutes, then I'm back to it only loading partially and seeing the wonderful spinning circle.
Thanks, Please post back here if there is any resolution.
Have reported this to Norton and sent logs etc and their engineering team is looking into it.
Same problem here with a Windows 10 PC using Norton Internet Security Constant Guard through Comcast. Performed live update to install latest updates this morning and all Windows Updates. Doesn't matter which brower is used-Chrome or IE. Only work around is to disable Smart Firewall to upload files.
I'm wondering if it is not some specific content on specific Facebook pages causing these problems. I do not use Facebook that much, but have tested and I have not seen any of the issues noted here.
Just bought Norton one month ago for the whole family and since 2 weeks I've got the same problem. Norton firewall blocks certain parts of facebook. (Like loading notification list, online people list and uploading images)
I would really like a solution instead of constantly disabling the firewall.
Would be a shame to already give up on Norton after 2 months :/
Gents!! Run live update on your Norton products until there are no updates available. That should ensure you have the latest available extensions for your browser installed. Please note that the Firefox browser extension DOES NOT support the Norton toolbar at the present time but is being evaluated to support that in the near future. I would then download and run the Sys Internals Suite from here. https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb842062.aspx
Decompress and copy/paste the Tcp-view executable to your desktop. Run as administrator from there. You can view ALL the processes running at one glance. Look over your screen for any processes that seem to be non-legit and jot down their names. Also terminate those connections. Then try connecting to the sites that are giving you issues and validate. This is a great tool for determining if you have hijacked system processes that could be causing your issue. Please have your Norton firewall enabled so it may see the Tcp-view process and allow it through. Fixing a website issue by disabling Norton's firewall raises a lot of red flags on my part. Hope this helps.
but if disable the firewall then exposed to attacks
I fixed it by disabling the norton firewall.
Everyone!! Those of you who are using the Chrome browser. This MAY be a possible solution for you:

Same problem for me, Norton is blocking facebook on chrome and Internet exporer and if i disable norton the problem is fixed.
This problem is started a few months back.
The only fix is to disable or remove Norton for me.
No, I wouldn't change the firewall settings. It seems Chrome no longer allows you to change IP standards support. So as a work-around, you might just use Firefox temporarily or try turning off IPv6 support in your network adapter settings.
If IPv6 is the issue, Will disabling IPv6 in the norton firewall general settings under uncommon protocols help and would it expose any risk?
Not sure what else to try, don't see a way to disable IPv6 just in Chrome.
