Firewall on Android

I am trying to download and install an app from the Google Play store and although it accesses and downloads the file, at least partly, it then stops with an error message saying the network is unavailable. My guess is something is happening in the firewall is stopping the internet access which is just from my house and is approved by Martin already. Does anyone know what could be going on or if possible fix for it? If nothing else is there a way I can stop Norton briefly and do my downloading install without Norton interfering with things

There is no firewall in the mobile versions of Norton 360. Have you tried downloading other apps to see if they are also blocked?

If you are using a VPN, try turning that off when you download the app.

Do you have the App Security for Google Play turned on in your 360 App Security section? If so, did the app show as safe in the Google Play Store before you downloaded the app?

I have used it to download other apps from Google Play store and not had any problems, I also turned on VPN just to try it and the problem was there also.

I thought Norton 360 DOES have a firewall, in fact I asked AI about that:

“Yes — Norton 360 (sometimes casually called “Norton 365”) does include a firewall, and it’s one of its core security layers.

:locked_with_key: What Norton Includes

Norton 360 comes with Smart Firewall, which:

- Monitors incoming and outgoing network traffic

- Blocks unauthorized access attempts

- Works with Norton’s Intrusion Prevention System to stop threats before they reach your device

- Adds protection on public or unsecured Wi‑Fi“

My guess is it’s actually it’s actually downloading the program correctly but then it tried to go to the cookutil site and it’s blocking that address which is when I get the network not available message this is the message I get when it locks up…

Remember AI is not always correct. You needed to ask for information on 360 mobile products. It is only the Windows and Mac products that have the firewall.

The network not available sounds like an issue with your home network. First suggestion is to restart your phone. If that does not help and you have cell data, try turning off wifi and use the cell connection to download the app.

Yes, AI can sometimes be wrong, and I can be wrong even more often  I’ve not checked on my Windows machine yet but my understanding was that the firewall settings were not available on the mobile Norton app but that they could be modified in the windows app, I’m assuming those settings are for every device that it’s been installed on. I’ve got to fight my way up the learning curve on this…

No. Even if you have 2 Windows computers, changing any settings in 360 on one device is just for that device. You have to manually change the same setting on the second device if that is what you want. This is because different users want to have things set up the way they want. One size does not fit all.
