Norton 360 version 5.1.0.29, Windows 7 Home Premium - 64 bit. I'm trying to turn the Windows firewall on. I disabled the 360 firewall, and in the action center it states both Windows and 360 report firewalls are turned off. When view firewall options is clicked on, a window pops up and "Turn on Windows Firewall" is clicked, nothing seems to happen. The action center still states both Windows and 360 Firewalls are turned. In the start/control panel/firewall it states these settings are controlled by Norton 360 and you cannot change any settibgs. It seems Norton is blicking turning on the Windows Firewall. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
Hi garye,
The rule of thumb is to never run two software firewalls, or two realtime security programs together. Windows Defender runs in real time and can conflict with Norton. Windows Defender should therefore be turned off, if Norton has not already automatically disabled it. Generally, if you use a security suite, you are better protected by allowing the suite's components, which are designed to work together, to provide for your security. Selectively disabing individual features weakens the overall effectiveness of the suite. If you want to pick and chose, you would be better off avoiding suites and all-in-one products like Norton 360 and opt instead for separate antivirus, firewall, etc. Each approach has it adherents.

I am using windows xp and not been able to broose on the internet the dianostic report states that the firewall client is blocking the necessary FTP port is there an answer to this issue
Hi papabear4977,
What Norton program are you using? Are you using a router? Does your modem have a firewall component? Are you unable to access the internet at all, or only FTP download sites?
Hi I can get into Internet Explorer-Skype-Outlook Express but can't brouse on Ebay etc when I do Internet states it can't open it and when I do the dignostic it states that the firewall client is blocking the necessary FTP port.
I've opened the windows security through control to windows firewall to make sure that the FTP Server 21 & FTP-Date 20 boxes are ticked but so far I have have no luck this has only happened since I renewed my Norton 360 Version 5.0 and installed the
package
Kind Regards

FTP should have nothing to do with being able to access eBay. The Windows Firewall is deactivated so long as Norton 360 is on your computer. Are you running any other security software? Have you tried resetting the Norton Firewall, using the Reset option in the Smart Firewall Advanced Settings? This could also be due to a misconfiguration in Internet Explorer somewhere. What message do you get when you try to access eBay?
Have resolved my problem had 2 security packages running switched one off with a positive result
Thanks for the reply
