Firewall

Does my norton security suite 21.3.0.12 offer outbound firewall security? Is this a two-way firewall?

I think I know the answer but I'd like confirmation. Does NAV 2012 come with a firewall?

Try going to the Smart Firewall settings and click on Reset. Restart your computer and Norton will create new rules for programs as they are run.

A 360 user will be able to point you to the setting, as I use NIS and the settings are often in slightly different locations.

See if this helps.

In N 360 - select Settings from the main page, then Select Firewall > General  Settings Tab > Firewall Reset > Reset [+] .  Then reboot system.

Thank you for your help I did as you said and unfortunately we still have the same problem. But thank you

Hi,
What scans have you run, other than your Norton product?

Thanks

Hi We have run troubleshooting and diagnosis from windows, from BT Help for network, we have tried switching no Microsoft services off at startup. Every time we close the PC it is visible on the network but not accessible. Thank you

Hi bevis6eh,

Please try the following steps:

  1. Navigate to Control panel > Device Manager >  INTEL(R) 82579V gigabit network connection
  2. Right-click on INTEL(R) 82579V gigabit network connection, and select Properties.
  3. In the properties window, select Advanced tab.
  4. In the Advanced Adapter settings window, under Settings, select Gigabit Master Slave Mode. Under Value, select Force Master Mode. (by default, it will be Auto Detect).
  5.  Click OK.

Try the above steps on both your computers.

Do let us know if this helps resolve your issue.

Hi I'm trying to set up my NAS drive to be available over the internet - it has a requirement to unblock a couple of addresses in the firewall - after hours of searching i really have no idea how to unlock http://members.dyndns.org:80 in the firewall (I'm not very tech savvy but am working my way through the NAS instruction manual) .  I have norton 360 which I believe controls the firewall settings ?  Could anyone please help x

Welcome,

Questions before answers.

Where is the NAS drive in relation to your computer and your router? If it is not connected to your computer then the firewall in question is in the router.

Keep us posted

Thank you for taking the time to reply :)  The problem was the router had stopped talking to the NAS drive - as it had been working ok this was the last place i thought of looking, after much head scratching and looking in all the wrong places a simple turning the router off and on again sorted out the problem ! Back to lesson one of tech problems :)  Thanks again x

Trying to add an internet weather station, and want to tell Norton 360 firewall to let the Weather Direct gateway, which is connected via a LAN cable to my router, to be able to access the internet. It is not connected to my computer, and it is not a program on my computer. It is a standalone gateway device that uploads weather data to the www.weatherdirect.com website. Any help with the firewall would be greatly appreciated by this newbie!

Thanks,

Tom

Does NordVPN / Norton VPN load with your OS? Even if its not actively enabled and loads with the OS that is most likely the issue. Norton will not allow access to their site and services via VPN and will detect it active on the system.

Thanks for the suggestion.  Unfortunately it did not correct the problem.

Not sure if this will help, your screenshots appear to show javascript may be the issue:

I have been using the Nord VPN for years without problems.  The above new problem occurs whether VPN is connected or off.

Are you using a VPN? Norton's web sites do not work with VPN's. Even Norton's own VPN can cause issues with their own web sites.

I tried setting Edge as the default browser and get the same "browser error has occurred".  This message is a bit different than one originally shown before reinstalling the software(?).Browser_0.png Norton software.

I get this message when using the Norton 360 app when I try or app tries to communicate with the Norton server with Chrome set as my default browser.  I can log into my Norton account okay when going directly to the My.Norton website.  I have cleared the browser caches and cookies.  Not using AntiTrack or and an ad blocker.

I forgot to ask what browser are you seeing this on? Does this occur using a different browser as well? Have you cleared your browser(s) cookies and caches, closed the browser and rechecked? Any anti-tracking / ad blocking extensions installed that can be disabled to verify whether they are the probable cause of the issue?

Here is the error message I get.  I uninstalled and then reinstalled Norton 360 but still get the same message.Norton error.png
