Fix for Windows XP no longer allowing Windows Updates from happening - ComboFix.exe

Go to www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/combofix/   and download ComboFix.exe
run it. Have a lot of patience. It goes though like 100 stages and reboots but it works.

I did for me!

I addressed this in a separate thread, albeit perhaps with too much diplomatic finesse.

What Quads said - do NOT use ComboFix.exe without expert tutelage and supervision.

If it's a problem with Microsoft (or Windows) Update, then it's most probably a Windows problem, not an AV software issue.  Try the solutions on Microsoft's support website.  For issues with Windows/Microsoft Update in Win XP, see KB 943144.  Try the Microsoft Fixit tool first (it will pop-up when you go to the web page.  It's so simple that even a caveman or my brain-damaged nephew can use.
