I have never had a problem with Norton and I have been using them for years.
Anyway, I have just updated to Norton Internet Security 2011 (about 1 week ago) but now the little Norton icon on the bottom right hand side of the screen has a red cross on it.
When clicked it opens the Norton Internet Security window and it says that my system is "at risk".
I press the "fix now" button and two windows appear. One is the Norton LiveUpdate, which updates everything fine (seemingly) but the second window, which says it's the "fix now" window just says "fix now in progress" but it never updates.
If you press ok on the first window, after it has downloaded the necessary updates, it then stops the "fix now" window and the problem is still there.
I have let it run for a long time but the "fix now" window is just not working. It says "protection updates - not fixed.
The RunLive update in the Norton Internet Security window says "updated 10 seconds ago" etc but it's still in red and is causing me a problem!
If that solution is what I think it was then it means the system time of the computer was incorrect.
Click on the clock on the Status Bar at the bottom of the screen, verify the date and time and if necessary correct it, especially check that your time zone is correct -- this sometimes jumps to an incorrect setting like the default Pacific Time.
Please let us know how you get on and if that does not fix it then we can move on from there.

Have you tried checking the time setting for accuracy as found by one user?
Hi! My computer is set to the correct time and time zone for where I am situated, but the Fix Now window reports "Fix not complete" with the Item "Quickscan" and the Status "Not Fixed". [This is also NAV 2011 (version 18.5.0.125), installed recently in response to Norton's update message, running on Windows XP.]
If you are having trouble with your system time and date going out of whack, it could mean that you need to replace the CMOS battery on your computer motherboard. This little battery only lasts for 3-4 years. The link below shows how to do this:
