Fix Now error

Hi! My computer is set to the correct time and time zone for where I am situated, but the Fix Now window reports "Fix not complete" with the Item "Quickscan" and the Status "Not Fixed". [This is also NAV 2011 (version 18.5.0.125), installed recently in response to Norton's update message, running on Windows XP.]

In the NAV window, Insight Protection has a red bar against it, which I do not seem to be able to change.  Fix Now runs a quick scan, which reported there were 3 risks which were resolved, but now reports that there are no viruses or other security risks.  When I click Finish, the Fix Now window comes up with the results mentioned above.

Hi mrbtrust.  What version was on your machine before the upgrade to 2011?

Pretty sure NAV 2010 - is there any easy way to check?

Hi mrbtrust

Try a reboot.  (Since you said your quick scan found some threats)

what happens when you invoke quick scan manually ? Right-click on the system tray icon and click "run quickscan". Does the scan complete?

Thanks for your thoughts.  Have re-booted more than once.  Run manually, Quickscan completes, and advises no viruses or other security risks were found.  The system tray icon still shows a red X.

Opening Nortons still shows Your computer is at risk, and clicking Fix Now just runs another Quick scan, which shows no risks but closes to the Fix Now window with the message Not fixed.

mrbtrust:

Has the warning been there since the upgrade or is this a more recent problem?  Are you able to run a manual liveupdate, and do the Insight updates apply correctly?

I believe the warning arrived with the upgrade.  Live update has run frequently, although I haven't specifically run it manually.  Insight protection gives no results - when I click for more details it displays a window with zeroes - and a red bar is displayed to the right in the NAV window.  I had a quick look in the settings, but could not find anything that appeared to relate to Insight.

I think it is going to come down to an uninstall and reinstall.

1. Download Norton Removal Tool

 http://www.norton.com/nrt

2.  Download NAV2011

www.norton.com/nav11

3.  Uninstall NAV via add/remove, ant then run the tool.  Reboot

4.  Install NAV.  reboot

5.  Run liveupdate until all updates are complete.  Check to see if Insight is also updating.

What are you using for a firewall?

[edit: corrected NAV download link]

Reinstalling seems to have done the trick, thanks.  Now there is some information in Insight, and I'm back to the green tick!

Excellent!  Sometimes the upgrades just don't seem to get everything where it belongs.

Hi, I hope you can help me as well.  I seem to have the same problem that the above user encountered.  However, when I try to download the NAV 2011, it asks me to purchase it.  I do not want to repurchase this as I've just done so in November,2010, as reviewed in my account.  Can you clarify, for me, what I have to do to fix this problem?  Thank you so much.

Hi Lswan,

Use the instructions in the post above - http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Fix-Now-error/m-p/385818#M145205

Let us know if you still need assistance!

I think I did something wrong, Tim.  I did not remove the NAV2011 from the add/remove program file.  I used the norton removal tool to do it.  It removed everything, I rebooted and then clicked on the download you had given to me in step 4.  It would not open to install.  What can I do now?  I really am a newbie...:smileysad:

Hello Lswan,

Do you receive any errors? If you need assistance with installation, Customer Service should be able to help you (and may even do it for you).

Contact Customer Service

The "Chat" option is the quickest.

No, I don't receive any error messages at all.  It just doesn't load....I also tried asking to the customer care link you've just supplied yesterday, before I put my questions into this forum.  No response..... Look, I just need someone to supply me with a download of the NAV2011 that I've paid for already on your site.  Emailing to me that download would work, wouldn't it?  I do not want to leave my computer unprotected too long?  Please help here.

Hi Tim...Thank you for the advice to the chat center.  Abinash was wonderful and helped me.  Thank you again....
