Problem:
I’ve noted the wrong password for the desktop app norton 360 (the antivirus one) and now I dont remember the password anymore. I am NOT talking about the password for my general Norton-account, but the Norton ap, that is just for one computer ig. And there is no “forgot password” button. Does anybody know how to fix this? I dont find anything.

@Gudrun_Scholtz Can you tell us what version and build of Windows you are using? Also, open the search command and type in regedit. When registry editor opens find this entry area below and take a screenshot of that entire entry for us. I DO NOT have a password set for Norton product settings thus my entry is empty. I would like to compare:

Locate:
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Norton\Antivirus\properties\AvPasswordProtection

@Gudrun_Scholtz

I’m having the same problem with the settings password. I have tried in my PC’s regular user profile and in my Admin profile and I get the “Wrong Password” message.

OS is the abbreviation for Operating System (examples: Mac iOS, Windows, Linux).

To get your product version number for Windows (since that is my PC’s OS), you’ll need to go to the directory where Norton 360 (N360) is installed. Unless you used a custom directory or have a different OS, you should be able to find the N360 in C:\Program Files\Norton\Suite and once you are in that folder (directory, same thing), right-click on the file named NortonUI.exe and select Properties. After the NortonUI.exe Properties window opens, click on the Details tab and you will see the File version and/or Product version (both are visible for me). Both version numbers should be the same and that is what you can provide to the forum or the Norton Support Team. If the two version numbers are not the same then report that as well.

Hope this helps!

@SoulAsylum

I’m having the same issue as @Gudrun_Scholtz . I looked in my Registry, where you suggested, and the only entry in there is a generic “key”

Name: (Default)
Type: REG_SZ
Data: (value not set)

That indicates there isn’t a settings password enabled for your Norton settings. I DO NOT have that password enabled or set, my registry entry matches yours. One thing of note, you MUST be logging into your OS under an account with admin privileges to change settings in Norton. A standard account will prompt you for the password of an admin account when this happens.

You can also find your version of Norton by simply opening the Norton user interface and going to the following settings:

Are you sure you are not seeing the Windows UAC prompt looking for your Windows Admin password?

I think he’s talking about the antivirus setup password that he forgot.
