Full System Scan Now Has HUGE Difference in # of Items Scanned

Returning from a Thanksgiving trip on Friday, I ran a “Full System Scan” on my Windows 10 OS desktop PC – and the results were:

Scan Time: 0:04:36:56

Total Items Scanned: 6,145,785

Total Security Risks Detected: 0

That is pretty typical for me.

Then today, Saturday, November 26, 2016 after quite a few Norton Updates, but NO other Setting changes or file deletions, I happened to run it again – with MARKEDLY different results:

Scan Time: 0:00:29:34

Total Items Scanned: 680,338

Total Security Risks: 0

I repeated it again, after another Update, with very similar results of the markedly faster and fewer items scanned.

This does not seem right to me.  Why would there be a four hour difference and a 5.5 MILLION items scan change on a "Full System Scan" run in less than 24 hours?
