Full System Scan stalling

Hi folks, long time lurker, first time poster. I have a problem that I hope you folks might be able to help me with.

First, my details:

Windows 8.1

Norton 360 22.5.2.15

Fast-Start is OFF

So, a couple of days ago, I manually started a Full System Scan (after doing a LiveUpdate). Usually, this takes about 5 - 10 minutes and has no problems. This time, however, the scan stalled out. The processing bar was still going, but it says that it was scanning a certain file for at least 20 minutes. When I attempted to stop the scan, the scan window grayed out, and I could not close it. Finally, I did a full shutdown and tried again. Same thing happened again.

So, I came to this forum and did a search to see if anyone else had this problem, and found that some folks have. Following the advice in those other threads, I used the Norton Mount Point Repair tool, the Norton Removal and Reinstallation tool (TWICE), and updated my video drives. No joy. Oddly enough, the scans always stop on a different file. Quick Scan does not seem to be affected by this problem.

So, I went ahead and disabled the Scan Compressed Files option, and was able to complete a full scan.

However, now I am concerned about the fact that there MIGHT be files on my computer that are not being scanned, and this worries me.

Is this a known bug? If so, is there any way to get this full scan to work AND have the Scan Compressed Files option on?

Any advice you folks can give me would be very much appreciated.
