I regularly do a manually-initiated full system scan using NIS2009. After a few minutes, it always comes up with a bunch of tracking cookies, which I duly get it to remove, and then the scan carries on. However, as I leave the computer to proceed on its own without doing anything else, eventually a NIS box pops up saying that it is doing background tasks "Full system scan in operation".
My question is - does this mean that two scans are going on at the same time because the idle-time scan soon detects the tracking cookies again, even though the original scan had removed them. I should say at this point that I always do scans when disconnected from the internet, so there should be no opportunity for cookies to be reinstalled during a scan once they have been removed. Also, there is only ever one dialog box showing the scan progress.
My other clue that there might be two scans going on simultaneously is that when it has all finished, it often reports that over 500,000 files have been scanned (which might be the case if some of the files are being scanned twice). I cannot believe I have this many files on my computer - although if anyone knows of a way to count the total number of files on a computer then I could check that out. I am running Windows XP Home Edition SP3.
So, do I have two scans running simultaneously and, if so, why isn't NIS 2009 smart enough to know that if a full scan is already in progress then there is no need to initiate an idle time full scan as well.
Hope all this makes sense. Any comments/suggestions gratefully received.
Many thanks,
Geoff
