Just went through the same frustration that the original message described.
I was restoring a 750 GB disk drive (3 partitions, appr. 400 GB in use), and saw the report that the backup had finished, but the "bit" icons continues to move, occasionally flashing pink. There was no time estimate to complete, so I'm assuming this was an indication that GHOST was checking for file system errors after recovery, as the disk activity light was flashing very rapidly. This took about 2 hours and 15 minutes before the completion screen appeared. Rebooting did exactly what I wanted.
This system had a dual boot configuration. Windows 7 was installed first (HP factory installed), and I added WINDOWS XP using EASYBCD to restore WINDOWS 7 to the MBR. The restore was done to a 2 TB disk drive after running the HP restore CD procedure, and the recovery was perfect, including the dual boot MBR.
It would be helpful if the documentation would indicate the "pink flash" is an expected phenomenon.
