Gadget lost

I have read posting about what to do and none of them work.

Windows 7 X64 Ultimate

NIS 2011

The Norton Gadget disappeared

Norton Gadget does NOT appear in Restore Gadgets

It used to work but it disappeared.

I have reinstalled and cleaned

The folder exists that contains the the gadget scrips but there is no information about how to install them

The forms that say "Solved" do not work for me.

There was someone who said the "Solved" did not work for them and no further postings were listed.

A routine that would simnply install the gadget from the folder:

C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar\Gadgets\Norton.Gadget\en-US\

would certainly be helpful.

Please help!

Albert

Hello alkolkin

Check this article:  Windows Valley

Note:  Link taken from Hugh's post in message 19 of this thread:  Missing Gadget

Very interesting, but it too does not work.

Restore does not show the Norton gadget.

When I followed option 2, there is no "PickerDefaultPackageSkipList" or anything similar

I have attached a copy of the ini file as a text file.

The folder that is supposed to contain the Norton Icon is there, yet the icon does not appear.

I have DEFINITIVELY solved the problem.

Dare I say without the help of Symantec.

The problem that Symantec ASSUMES that it can be restored from the Restore Desktop Gadget installed with Windows Applet or else by merely going to Gadget add.  They do not anticipate that the gadget may have gone away because the Window Sidebar folder that contains "Norton Gadget" folder is an empty Norton Gadget folder.

They do not tell you or perhaps do not know that the Norton Gadget Folder also appears in the program files or in my x64 Windows 7 in C:\Program Files (x86)\Norton Internet Security\Engine64\18.5.0.125\gadgets

The way to fix this problem, then is to first enter Safe Mode and copy the above folder into C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar\Gadgets.

Walla, the problem is fixed when you go to the Gadgets and double click to install the gadget.
