I have a Vista OS pc. I think this problem started a while back when I "upgraded" to IS 2014 from IS 2012 (don't know why -had no problems with 2012 ). Cannot play Links 2003 online golf game on Game Ranger (GR - online game site for ALL kinds of games) - gameranger.com . I can log in and talk to people etc but when game is launched I can't get in - get thrown out with no error msg (this would be typical if you don't have port forwarding not set correctly.
Which brings me to the disappearing ports in the program rules which I put on this forum and really never got "fixed" (didn't help with problem anyway). See this link if you want to read all details - https://community.norton.com/forums/port-forwarding-remote-port-settings-disappearing .
So it may not even be Norton IS doing it but not sure. If anyone has any ideas please share - thanks.
Here's what I did so far:
With port forwarding setup set up correctly (done it many times in 2012) tried to go immediately to GR but wouldn't connect to other players - got rejected back. (I might add it did launch). So removed Program Rules port info and I have "Allow" for both Links game and GR instead of "Custom". Read in another forum that it's enough - should automatically do the port forwarding for you.
UnPn Discovery is ON - not sure if that's helping or hurting or neither.
I have my router set up with the same port forwarding as when everything was working fine. Even put it on DMZ and at the same time temporarily turned off the smart firewall but didn't help.
(Could the anti-virus portion of Norton IS be causing a problem with this. If that is the problem I'm not sure I would know how to fix it anyway lol.)
I did a firewall reset but no go either.
Added the files to the Auto-Protect & SONAR Exclusion list
Any ideas?
