Gbridge is a really awesome network syncing software, but I can't get the sync feature to work after I installed Norton Internet security 2011.
I have two computers, Win XP and Win Vista, both up to date, and Gbridge 2.0.0.1353 (latest) on both.
Everything worked fine when I had NIS 2010. As soon as I installed NIS 2011 on both computers, Gbridge's secure share would only work for a few seconds after first starting and would then fail to sync. I can see the computers and their secureshare. There are no messages when I auto sync, it just keeps me waiting forever and never actually download the files that need to be synced.
I tried configuring the advanced options (by turning on Gbridge firewall for incoming traffic, with UDP, SSH, Windows share folder, all other traffic all enable) and that didn't help. The chat and diagnostic ping features of Gbridge seem to be working. But I haven't tried any other features. I also made sure gbridge.exe is on the allowed list for NIS 2011 on both pcs, but that didn't change anything.
When I turned NIS 2011's smart firewall off temporarily, the sync feature worked like it should again. So the key seems to be configuring NIS 2011 firewall settings to make it compatible with Gbridge syncing.
However, I don't know much about networking, so I don't know how to configure NIS 2011 firewall settings to make Gbridge work in a way that protects my system's safety to a reasonable extent.
Please help me by telling me how I should configure NIS 2011 firewall settings. I know how to follow instructions, but I don't know how to play with the firewall settings on my own safely.
Or maybe the answers is in waiting for a newer version of Gbridge that is able to work with NIS 2011? What am I missing?
Please help.
