I have Norton Security Online though Comcast (Xfinity). Have home security cameras working on Wi-fi but not getting through so I can see them with android phone. The WiFi cam is Wansview and is Allowed in the Firewall -> Program Control tab.
As long as your individual devices are protected by malware software/apps, just turning off the router firewall is not as major a factor. But having said that, you do want to keep it on. What you might try is disable it to test. Then, if that worked, go back in and try finding any filtering options to allow the camera to be allowed through the router.
I took a look at the Quickstart document for Wansview cameras and found this troubleshooting tip. The firewall mentioned there to disable is in your router. Not on a device you are using to access the cameras. As I hinted above, Norton is not part of your problem.
Which camera model are you using? I'll try to research some more on this. I am unfamiliar with the way this app works. Does it connect directly to the camera, or to some other recording device or an app on your PC?
You could try reinstalling the Wansview app. First go into Android Settings - Apps. Scroll to the Wansview app and clear the app cache and app Data. Then uninstall the app. Restart the device and reinstall the app and reinitialize it/reconnect the camera to the app. Then test to see if things work properly.
Yes, cell data is on. Yes Wansview knows. Router is Xfinity (Comcast) and when I contacted them they told me to contact the camera company, who told me to contact Xfinity.
Do you have cell data on the phone? To access the cameras when you are not in range of your home router, ie you are not at home, you need an internet connection on the phone. Then you need to have your home router set up to allow the camera to send data outside your home network. You need to follow directions from the manufacturer to set this up.
I repeat my question from above. Did you let the Wansview support people know you were trying to access the camera while not at home with a mobile device? If not, try contacting them again with this additional information.
I already can view the camera on the phone as long as I'm within range of the router. That is not my problem. Once I'm away from the router range I can't view the camera. The video does not address that.
Did you mention it was on the Android phone that you were having trouble? Their reply would seem to indicate they were trying to help with PC access. Like I noted, there are no firewalls on mobile devices.
Check out the video I linked to above and let us know if that helps connect your phone.
Can you see the devices on a PC? There is no firewall on any Norton mobile products. You would be connecting to the cameras via your router through an app on the mobile device. Your security product on a PC would not be involved. In fact, you should be able to connect to the device even if you do not have a PC.
I would suggest contacting the Wansview support to ask for help setting up the mobile app.
EDIT
I just had a quick look at the Wansview site and found this video on setting up a wifi connection from a mobile app. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SqmcI9pbdvI&feature=youtu.be
