I keep getting an intrusion alert with NIS 2010 from this link on this site:
http://community.norton.com/norton/board/message?board.id=nis_feedback&thread.id=71564&jump=true
Has anyone else run into this?
Hi,
i get the same alert.
Do you use AdMuncher like me?
There must be a problem between NIS 2010 and AdMuncher.
When I disable AdMuncher I can look at this site.
Regards
Ralf
Bingo! Thanks! AdMuncher is what is causing it. When I disable it, then everything is fine. I wonder if there is a way around it.
I also reported it to the AdMuncher people and hopefully they will come up with some sort of solution, or at least a reason why this is happening.
Ralf,
Here is the fix I just figured out, and successfully tested, for the AdMuncher vs NIS 2010 problem for the forums.
1. Go to My Filters in the AdMuncher Configuration
2. Click the New button
3. Choose Minimal filtering on URL from the Filter category dropdown
4. Enter http://community.norton.com in the Keyword / URL / Text box.
5. Click Apply.
And all is well once again on the forums. ;)
Hi Boofo,
here in Germany I get this alert in some forums and also when I type e. g. www.prevx.com in the browser.
Perhaps AdMuncher and Norton can solve this together, but my english is not good enough to be helpful.
Regards
Ralf
Hello Ralf,
I talked to Jeffery (the AdMuncher author) and it seems that NIS is throwing a false positive. He suggested that I report this to Norton so they can fix it in the next update. You might also want to report it so they will know it is more than one person having problems. I’m not sure how to re-open this thread now that I have it marked solved, which is is not, come to find out. The fix I posted is not recommended by Jeffrey.
Hello Boofo,
I sent a mail to AdMuncher and I hope they understand what I mean.
Perhaps you or anybody else with the same problems (and better english) can contact Symantec.
Best regards
Ralf
Got an answer from AdMuncher, that it is a false positive from Norton and that I should report it to them.
Regards
Ralf
Yes, that is what I stated 2 posts up.
Hi,
The most efficient way to report the false positive is to have Ad Muncher notify Symantec of the problem by completing and submitting the form on this web page:
And the story continues.
Today NIS 2010 blocks it's own community board when AdMuncher is enabled.
Is there only a few number of persons which use AdMuncher?
Regards
Ralf
All we can do is to keep reporting the links that Norton is blocking with AdMuncher. If they get enough reports, then they are going to have to look into it further instead of ignoring it.

Or you could just munch AdMuncher and be done with any more false positives. :-D
BTW, I don't understand how it's Norton throwing out false positive when it's AdMuncher that's reporting on it.
If you had ever used the web with AdMuncher, you wouldn’t say that, trust me.
Norton is picking up something in the code that AdMuncher ads to the page as a false positive.
Well I loaded up AdMuncher and went to the URL in your first post and did not get a false positive or a trigger from NIS. However I did get one from the prevx.com site.
I still get it from the first post. A little window pops up in the lower right hand corner of the screen. I am using the registered version so that might be why. Make sure the definitions are updated.
Thanks for reporting this issue. Symantec is aware of this and intends to address it in an upcoming Security Update. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Everything seems to be working fine now. The updates seem to have fixed the AdMuncher problem. Thank you.
