getting rid of babylon search malware

I have been a long time Norton is subscriber and have not had any problems. two days  ago I picked up the infamous babylon search malware that hijacked my home page.  I went to uninstall programs and uninstalled it but that did not cause it to go away. thats when I knew it was malware  and had buried itself. this morning I called norton support and they advised me to use  eraser which I had already and which did not detect babylon. they then told me that  the virus would have to be removed manually and that I could not do it myself. Norton techs would remove it for 99 dollars. I was shocked that they would ask so much to remove something that norton IS should have blocked. I spent some time searching for other suggestions but I did not want to fool around with my registry. then I discovered someone who had the same problem and did a system restore.  I did a system restore to last week and suddenly babylon was gone.why didnt Norton suggest this?

You can guess whether I will ever renew my Norton IS
