Hello,
I am running Windows 7 professional on a 64 bit system and have Norton Security wih Backup. Today, from start up, I got repeated, frequent pop ups: Security Request. Outbound Traffic Detected. We have detected a large amount of suspicious outbound traffic on your system. Your computer may be infected with something that Norton Power Eraser can detect and remove. Do you want to run Norton Power Eraser?
There is a checkbox for: Don't show this message again for this outbound traffic
There are buttons for OK and cancel.
I clicked cancel, and the pop up kept coming back. I checked the box and clicked cancel and it kept coming back. I went to the main Norton panel and ran Norton Power Eraser from there (being suspicious that the pop up might be malware).
The first time I ran it, it stopped and said "An error has occurred. The Parameter is incorrect. Error code: 0x80070057,n32,n2c,n4
I ran it again, and this time, it said, Scan Complete, and showed one problem:
Risk Type Status Action
acproxy.dll File Bad Remove
It has a checkbox next to Remove. At the bottom of the box, it has a check box next to "Create System Restore Point before proceeding with fix (Recommended).
I can choose exit or fix now.
All the while, even during the Power Eraser scan, I have kept getting the Security Request pop up.
After searching on the web, I did not find any good explanations about the pop up. Searching on acproxy.dll, I found that some people, who did not have acproxy.dll or had a corrupt file or other problems with the program, autochk.exe, which this dll is a part of, could not boot their computer.
I don't want to trade a bad problem for a worse one. If anyone can offer guidance, I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you.
