I made a successful restore point on an XP machine to an external drive. I've restored it to another machine to test the backup and it said it was successful. When I rebooted it gets to the Welcome screen then reboots and offers safe mode or normal mode. Either option just reboots from the Welcome screen. I can look at the drive with Recovery console and all data seems normal. I ran repair from the recovery console and it also reboots. I tried creating new partitions on the drive and then restore the image with same problem. I did a clean install on the drive and it worked OK.
I created a restore point from a different computer and restored it to the same test machine without any problem.
The original machine is working fine so it isn't critical I'm curious as to what is happening. I plan to try to make a new backup of the drive..
All three machines are Dells with Windows XP Home SP3
Any ideas would be helpful.
