I use ghost 10 and have almost identical problem. Super simple -one xp pc trying to BU to an external drive.
Timed incremental backups wont work - they take forever. However, manual backups take about 2 minutes provided i follow a certain protocol. As crazy as it sounds....
The backup profile is unchanged it is a timed weekly backup of C: - but i never let that run. I backup every morning first thing.
But i must open the app and THEN turn on the external hard drive - if i do the reverse it hangs.
Its clugy software and i was hoping that later versions solve this but it does not sound like it.
Would love to hear from others on this
