I want to clean up my file and folder backup, so I go into "Recover My Files" and pull up all files for "File and Folder". When I try to delete anything, I get:
-Info 6C8F1C25: Cannot delete items.
--Error E7D10017: Unable to delete 'F:/Backups/Norton Ghost Backups/ASTRONOS/File Backup Data/fbfFiles_050/1c97472768050c0.fbf'.
---Error E7D10016: Unable to set attributes on 'F:/Backups/Norton Ghost Backups/ASTRONOS/File Backup Data/fbfFiles_050/1c97472768050c0.fbf'.
----Error EBAB03F1: Access is denied.
The file and folder backup runs fine, no access issues, so why can't the "Recover My Files" browser do deletes? Isn't it running with admin privs?
I am running Ghost 12.0.5.29804 on Vista SP1 32-bit.
Hi unimatter,
The Recovery Point Browser is a browser which shows the contents of the backup. It allows only to recover the files from the browser. You can not delete the files from Recovery Point browser. Logically thinking, the reason for this is that deleting the files from a backup will break the structure of the backup file.

I am not using the Recovery Point Browser, I am referring to the “Recover My Files” function, and I am not referring to a “Recovery Point”, and I am referring to the “File and Folder” backup. There is a delete function, which is failing under Vista. I am running it from an account with admin privs.
It sounds like there might be a mismatch between what is physically present and what is cataloged by the product. Try the following:
-Stop the Ghost service
-Delete the catalog.dat from C:\ProgramData\Symantec\FileBackup
-Start the Ghost service
-Reimport your backups by clicking on Tasks in the left hand of the UI, then recover my files, when the dialog comes up make sure file and folder is selected on the left, then file | Import Backup Destination.
That should resync up your backup with the product. Then you should be able to delete items.
Looks like it is an issue with Ghost12 compatibility with Vista UAC. Although I was able to delete files manually (after UAC prompt), I had to give myself explicit permissions on the FileBackup folder in order to be able to delete with Ghost. Now when I try to delete manually, I get no UAC, which is probably why it works from Ghost.
