Ghost 12 fails RPC; has worked for a year before this week.

Product Norton Ghost 12.0, version 12.0.0.20352

I've been using Ghost 12 to backup my NTFS-formatted computer drives C and D to an Ethernet-connected external Western Digital MyBookWorld II drive for over a year; The external drive is in RAID1 config, with about 400GB available storage. One task incrementally backs up documents, which continues to work properly. The other task backs up C and D drives incrementally, with a fresh base set every month; three sets max. Standard Windows XP Pro SP3 with Windows drivers.

Since December 11th, the second task has failed every night. THe symptoms of the failure is a message just after setting the recovery point:

Error 800706be running job: Drive Backup of Boot (C:\); Old Boot (D:\).

Norton Ghost Service Connection: This program is unable to connect and communicate with the Norton Ghost backup service on TARANTULA.

On clicking "Reconnect", the message comes up about whether to run missed backups. I click on "Yes", and the "Reading backup destination information" message appears, then the backup fails again with the same message.

Nothing has changed on this computer for some time; except for the the automatic Windows XP updates.

I've deleted the two older Ghost backup sets to make sure there is more than enough capacity; the same failure behavior results.

Checking the Ghost Event Log, on December 10th the following error appears:

Error EC8F1C50: Cannot create file backup for job: Documents Backup. Error E4BC0012: An interaction with the catalog's database layer failed unexpectedly: sqlite3_step--5: database is locked.
