When I try to copy drive C: to my new drive I get message “a null reference pointer was passed to the stub” and it won’t go on it also has error 800706f4 running job copy drive. I can find no info on either of these messages and really need to copy my drive to the new one as it is very full! Thanks
When searching the Symantec Knowledge Base, the only reference I found was to WinFax:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/faxprod.nsf/0/fa86d46de166064f8525668800552527
Which begs the question - do you have any other Symantec products installed? Also, what are the details of the backup you created, and loaded to? If you're trying to copy your boot partition to another disk to be booted on a different machine, there are many factors that go into that type of image creation. Please reply with the details of the image creation and restoration.
No I do not have any other Symantec products installed on my computer(should not matter that I prefer other a/v and firewall Software).
I have had ghost and just used it to image a new drive before in DOS form and on Win98 machines.
I have an almost full C: drive and have a new drive installed and formatted to NTFS in the E: position, all I want to do is copy all the data and o/s(XP Pro SP2 with all updates) and MBR to E: then change it to my primary drive but I get this weird error message ever time I try to use the Copy Drive Wiz.
No I'm not a virgin to software or hardware.
Thanks, Dwight
Thanks Dwight. I re commend that you download the Norton Ghost 12 User Guide, and follow the steps in Chapter 11 to copy the drive over. If you have already done this, please let me know at which point in these steps that the error message occurs. Thanks!
Hi Tony: I have ghost v 10 and I have the same problem when I try to change any settings, ie back up times, dates, etc. I get the message "a null reference pointer was passed to the stub" and I can't go any further. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program several times but to no avail, I get the same error message. Can you or anyone else help me.
THanks
Walter
Yes I stillhave the problem, have read and used the user guide, printed and used chapter 11 and then spent a very meaningful but useless 3 hours with Samujjwel in an open chat and giving him control of my computer. He tried everything I’ve tried and we even un and re installed Ghost 12 to no avail. Please!!! I need this to work
Oh I forgot to include that the message happens as soon as I start Copy Drive.
Thanks, Dwight
Ghost reports all warnings and errors to the Windows Event log. Could you look at the application event logs and check for any warnings/errors from Ghost, Ghost Service, V2i, Volume Shadow Copy Service, etc? Have you run LiveUpdate in Ghost until there are no more updates? Thanks!
I find it hard to beleive, seeing all the other problems, that noone else has had this problem. When I went to the support page I got the message I would have to go to “Live Chat” with a wait of at least 30 minutes!!! am I to asume. after spending good money I should just sit here and stare at my screen for 30 minutes or so until someone comes online to tell me they never heard of such a thing? I would hope a company as old as Symantec would have better HELP than this!!!
