Whilst googling for a solution I found a number of threads with issues similar to mine, but they were all locked. In the hope that it may help someone else, here, I believe, is the solution to the problem where Ghost 12 (and probably 14) stops working after installation of .net 3.5 SP1, with a fatal error which stops VProConsole from running.
After installing .net 3.5 SP1 on an XP Pro system, Ghost 12 no longer ran, instead I got the “VProConsole” error. The event viewer showed a problem with .net 2.0 – so I removed and reinstalled both Ghost and .net 2.0 to no effect.
The following updates to.net versions 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5 SP1 on the Microsoft website address .net compatibility issues, and KB958481 fixed my problem. I installed the other two, and Ghost still runs.
KB958481 for .net 2.0
KB958483 for .net 3.0
KB9558484 for .net 3.5 SP1

I suggest the cure for the .net woes is to install the appropriate updates for the versions of .net installed on your PC. It worked for me.
Hope this helps.
