Ghost 14.0 cannot create a bootable driveon Windows XP SP3

tried a disk copy (internal drive to external new drive through USB SATA cable) and it wouldn't boot (looks like it didn't create the boot block, NTLDR missing). Created an image (on an external USB drive as usual) and boot up from the G14 CD (with new drive formatted - partitioned and ready to go in place of original drive) and it says the images are invalid (all three of them!!!) and the next button grays out.

What should be rather simple does not work. I know about the switches (download the user guide and did exactly what it says) and nothing allows me to copy to a bigger drive and boot.
