Ghost 14.0 - Stalls at 5% when creating a Recovery Point

Yesterday I upgraded from Ghost 9.0 to 14.0.  The upgrade went fine and so did my first backup.  However, when I tried to do another backup today the creation of the recovery point stalled at 5%.  I have tried rebooting, but it does not seem to help.  I also deleted the backup job and recreated it, but it always stalls at the same place.  I did some searching on the net and found a suggestion to remove "un-used" drives and to try again.  By chance I did have a an "extra" USB drive connected to my system yesterday when Ghost was installed and I also routinely connect my Blackberry which appears as a storage device.  I removed the devices, but it did not seem to help.

After literally hours of attempting to get Ghost to get past 5% it "mysteriously" started working as I began my entry on the forum.  I have no idea what is going on, but surely Ghost should not routinely hang at 5%.  Any ideas or suggestions for things I should be looking for?

I am running Windows XP SP2 and am backing my system up to an external (USB) 500gb drive.

Thanks....

I don’t know if this addresses your issue or not, but when I first used Ghost 14 to create a recovery point, the backup seemed to stop toward the end and nothing seemed to be happening.  After  quite a long time it eventually completed successfully.  I had set it to verify the accuracy of the backup, and it occurred to me that the long pause probably happened while the recovery point was being verified.  I can’t say for sure that this is the answer, but it is at least a plausible explanation.
