Ghost 14.0 Tool -> Manage backup destination problems

I'm using Ghost 14 and have backed up a XP computer onto a Seagate Freeagent drive. I want to utilize the management options where Ghost will automatically delete old version of the backup so the drive won't fill. Every time I click on the Tools -> manage backup  destination, I get a "This destination is currently unavailable." Error.  If I click ok on the error window I do see the Manage backup destination window and my recovery point is shown yet under drive details used space is 0 and free space is 0 - The backup files are there if looked at via Windows Explorer.

How can I resolve this problem?

Thanks for your help. Here's the info:

Win XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 3

32 Bit

Harddrives that are being backed up (C:) Hitachi 300GB Capacity 78.9GB used NTFS (F:) WD 230GB Capacity 86.2GB used NTFS.

Hi ddr,

Thanks for the information, much appreciated.

Is your backup drive a USB drive, firewire, internal or what?

Is your C and F drives two separate physical disks or two partitions on the same disk? From your description it sounds like two different physical drives but just want to make sure.

Was this working at some point and then stopped working or has this never worked?

I'm going to recommend a few things. Please try each in turn and then check for the problem again before performing the next one.

I would recommend running a chkdsk /r on the backup drive just to make sure that there are no bad sectors, etc.

Next, please try running Fixinstall.bat which if you did not change the directory during install is located in: C:\Program Files\Norton Ghost.

Also I noticed that you appear to be doing a backup of your C and F drive from the same backup job. Though this is supported I generally recommend doing this only if the two drive letters are on the same physical disk. I don't think this has anything to do with your problem  but it would be a good idea to try this to make sure.

If none of the above resolve the issue, please try uninstalling and then reinstalling Ghost. During uninstall Ghost will ask you if you want to retain backup history, please answer NO to this. Please note: answering NO will mean that Ghost will not remember your backup history and they will not show up in Manage Backup Destination. However any backups you have previously performed will still be usable for restoral and all other purposes. They just won't show up in the history.

Please let me know how it goes.

Thanks

Allen
