I have a DLink DNS-323 on our network and had the exact same error.
I ended up changing the identify of the "Norton Ghost" service to my own. Then when setting up a backup task, do not specify a username and password. Blank it out. The Backup Wizard will not allow you to specify a blank username/password, but you can if you create a task manually.
However, there's a caveat. Everytime I have NG14 up, it will complain continously that my backup location is not accessible. A sliding yellow message window appears at the bottom right of my screen and it will simply not go away. And I know it's a lie because all backups are successful and I even recovered from one.
Actually, it turns out that the setup wizard was causing the problem. I was able to sucessfully set up to backup both the C drive and My Documents to the network drive by editing them manually, and it did not get into a Do Loop of trying to make me enter a network name and password.
