I have read many of the posts around the web about Ghost 14 and issues with its use, but having been a long time user of Symantec products I am willing to give it a go. Before I do however, I have several questions you may be able to help me with.
My current configuration: ThinkPad T43 Notebook, Windows XP Pro Sp3 (C:\), 40GB HDD with two additional partitions (D:\, S:\).
My target HDD: New Seagate Momentus 160GB drive attached via CablesToGo USB2 cable, activated to Windows and all space unallocated.
Questions:
1. "Set Drive Active" forces one to a "non-C:\" drive letter which will be a problem when the drive is installed as the master and booted. What is the proper procedure or work around. Seems like a systems design defect that could be gotten around by the Copy Drive process being made standalone.
2. Posts have said that for Windows XP SP3 systems copying the MBR as a part of the process doesn't work. Any experiences?
3. Windows and Standalone Partition Magic 8 supports partition copying. Why isn't that a solution? What's different about it and what makes one or the other better? I understand that there may be the issue of creating a new MBR but there are ways to do that.
4. For Symantec: This is Version 14 of Ghost! Why is have you designed the product such that so many people are having so many issues with "Copy Drives", one of the most basic of reasons for people to be using it??
Thank you.
