Ghost 14: Could not restore boot, CRC invalid, but recovery drive passed CHKDSK, image verified

Hi,

I was trying to test the symantec recovery disk. (I am running Ghost 14 on XP SP3).

A good/bad thing happened: I could boot into the recovery drive, and wanted to test the image of C:\ that I had on a Firewire drive S:\. I actually tried to restore!! Then realized that was a bad idea since it would overwrite C:\, but it had started so I let it go on.

After a while (30% through process), I got the error that restore couldn't be completed due to internal file CRC invalid or corrupted. I ran CHKDSK/r on the S:\, and it passed. I verified the recovery point using the task tab, and verify. I created the recovery point with no compression, ignore bad sectors, no smart sectors, no VSS (the safest way I know).

I rebooted the computer and my C:\ drive is ok.

While I am VERY glad I didn't overwrite my properly functioning C:\ drive, and that I can boot from the SRD, why did I get the error message that the recovery drive S:\ has a problem? I know of no better way to check that drive other than CHKDSK, or check the recovery point other than the verification done at time of creation and then repeated using the task tab.

There is a comment in the help manual about "mock restore" but I can find NO directions about mock restore.

Are there other checks I can do on the drive S:\, or the recovery point? Is there such a thing as a mock restore?

Thanks,
