I was repacing a 40GB drive with a 160GB (pATA) using Ghost 14 to clone the drive. When I attempted to reboot using the 160GB as the master, it would boot to where the blue screen appears and says, "Windows XP" and go no further. After a while I googled to this forum and found the answer in the form of a reply to another post by LV_Bill, but it took a few read-throughs to get the gist since it was in the form of a dialog that made things a bit nebulous. It appears as though this is a somewhat common problem from what I have seen, so I'd like to take the opportunity to explain exactly what to do, and perhaps save someone the same misery that I endured
- Install the disk you want to clone your C drive to as a slave
- From Windows' control panel navigate to disc management and create a basic partition, but do NOT give it a drive letter
- When you open Norton Ghost and launch the copy disc wizard, use the pull-down menu on the last step to assign a letter for the disk
This may seem like a small distinction, but it is one that caused me to waste many hours for what should have been a simple task. It is not really a bug per se, but I think that the application should have a note about this as soon as you enter into this area.
