I would first recommend reviewing Chapter 15 of the Norton Ghost 14 User Guide, and be sure to follow the steps to complete this process. If you still encounter some issues, please let us know the operating system you are using and the exact errors you receive. Ghost reports all warnings and errors to the Windows Event log. Could you look at the application event logs and check for any warnings/errors from Ghost, Ghost Service, V2i, Volume Shadow Copy Service, etc? Have you run LiveUpdate in Ghost until there are no more updates?
I followed the instructions on chpt 15 step by step as it applies...the chpt 15 mostly refers to desktop pc.
But I still have the same problem. My pc is Notebook pc (Thinkpad X60s with Windows XP SP2). It still does the same thing.
My setting: internal HD: 60GB (Source HD)
external USB HD :200GB (Destination HD)
By the way, it does not display any error message on windows...it just sits there forever with 99% complete...
Can you tell me the exact location of error log file so I can report to you? I could not find...
This was frustrating and my worst experience of software purchase. I paid full price of Ghost 14. But I have to pay additional support cost to get any help. This is ridiculous! After many failed & frustrated tries to upgrade my HD of my thinkpad notebook pc to a larger HD, I will attemp to return this and get refund.
Anyone with similar experience, pls reply...
I’m sorry to hear that you experience has been a frustrating one.
One question, when at the 99%, how long did you wait? Also, have you tried doing the restore without resizing to fill the entire drive?
Once the restore finished, either successfully or with an error, it does write out a log file to the X:\Windows\Temp directory. The log file will have a .dbg extension. Fair word of warning, X: when running in the recovery environment is a RAM drive and the contents will disappear when you reboot.
I waited over night for about 7 hours...few times. I wasted enough time on this.
I am not sure why you are asking if I tried to restore?? My original HD (smaller capacity) is intact.
I was simply "clone" it to a larger HD...thought it would be a simple task...
I ask because they are two different code paths. I’m trying to help narrow down the problem. What you are trying to do is very doable - I’ve done it myself more that once. And the hardware you are on is similar to the T60p that I have. The tasks is a simple one. So, my goals are to 1) help you get it done and 2) if we determine that we have a bug that we are dealing with, get that information to development so that it can be fixed.
I appreciate you trying to help. But the CD is already on it's way to you for a refund.
Indeed, Thinkpad X60s I have is similar to T60p, which is my other notebook PC that I use it as a desktop replacement. I was planning to do the same when T60p HD becomes full...
I’m sorry to hear that and that we were not able to get the job done right out of the box. I would hope that you would consider giving us another shot when you need to add space to your T60p.
Not a chance...but Good luck.
Here's the solution.
BACKUP source drive to USB drive (not destination).
Partition the new 200GB HD drive and most importantly CREATE MFT & MBR. You could run a windows boot disk, knoppix, whatever to do this.
With the new 200GB HD in the laptop, boot now from the Ghost CD and recover from the image on the USB drive.
When selecting recover options, UNCHECK copy MFT & MBR. The selected image should now have a GREEN CIRCLE which means the copy will work.
RECOVER. It will work.
The problem encountered in this thread is due to incompatable MBR and MFT's from the old -> new drive. If you create a MFT and MBR on the new drive and don't overwrite I recovers easily. I did the total process in roughly 20 minutes with my Thinkpad T41 going from 30GB > 160GB.
Hope this helps.
