When I try to start Ghost 14 on my XP SP3 laptop the splash screen apears but the application doesn’t launch. I know i’m not giving much information but I don’t get any error message.

I looked at the event log and indeed there was an error from ghost, here's the full log i don't really know how to interpret it.

I reinstalled .net 2.0 but i still have the same problem

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling Ghost?  If not you may try running the Norton Removal Tool:

http://norton.com/nrt

An unhandled exception is occuring in .Net with out task.  We may need to collect information later on.

I reinstalled afte i used the norton removal tool and i still have the same problem

Hi piku17, I’ve sent you a Private Message (PM - the envelope  in the upper right corner of the forums) with instructions on how to obtain and upload logs to us. Please follow these steps so we can further review the issue. Thanks!

I’ve got the same problem, is there any update to this post?

I've been analyzing the logs from Piku and noticed a couple things.  I'll detail them for both you and c7c4c7.

The version of Ghost you have is the base version, so the first step would be to run LiveUpdate.  Can you go to start > run > luall and hit OK.  See if you can update the product to the latest version (you may need to do this several times).

You have no LMHOSTS file in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc.  Did you delete this file?

Dr. Watson is disabled, did you disable?

Are you using Acronis at the same time?  I see multiple event errors with Source: VSS, EventID: 12293 and the following information:

Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Error calling a routine on the Shadow Copy Provider {262b716e-bb23-41b5-aaef-e2c15e767167}. Routine details Cannot ask provider {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000} if volume is snapshotted. [0x80004005] [hr = 0x80004005].

This is also affecting DiskKeeper.

The entry that most likely points to the problem with Ghost is the following:

EventID: 5000

Source: .NET Runtime 2.0 Error Reporting

EventType clr20r3, P1 vproconsole.exe, P2 8.0.0.0, P3 4792b7d0, P4 system.drawing, P5 2.0.0.0, P6 471ebf30, P7 7ac, P8 6c, P9 system.argumentexception, P10 NIL.

According to research this implies a problem in .Net.  Do you have the latest version of .Net 2 installed including all updates?

I hope someone can figure this one out. when I start ghost 14  I get vproconsole has encounterd a problem and needs to close. Here is my error log: Source: .net runtime 2.0 error R, event I.d. 1000

Have you installed the latest updates to .Net?

I’ve installed and uninstalled everything I can think of, when I install ghost 14 it doesn’t even ask me for my subscription key. I cant unistall net 2.0 because it says the feature I am trying to use is on a cd or other removable disk. insert the microsoft .net framework 2.0 service pack 1 disk and it seems to me that when I downloaded it, there was a message that said once installed it cannot be uninstalled.

I installed another hard drive and downloaded a trial of ghost 12 I believe and it work fine, so I uninstalled it for some reason and bought ghost 14 and now none of the ghost versions will work, i’ve tried.

i had to use the dotnetfx_cleanup_tool from http://astebner.sts.winisp.net/Tools/dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip to delete .net framework 2.0 sp 1, then  tried to start ghost 14 and it said i needed .net 2.0 do you want to install i did and so that fixed my problem, ran a backup and it worked just fine.

Ghost reports all warnings and errors to the Windows Event log. Could you look at the application event logs and check for any warnings/errors from Ghost, Ghost Service, V2i, Volume Shadow Copy Service, etc? Any additional info you can provide is helpful. Thanks!
