I've used Ghost for several years and have cloned some drives and done many restores from Ghost 9 and 10 on XP based machines. I've done several backups with Ghost 14 on my wife's VISTA based laptop but this is my first attempt to use Ghost 14 to clone a drive or restore from a backup and it's not going well. First I attempt to clone a drive, then I attempted to restore from a backup. Both processed failed as noted below.
I am replacing a 160 GB drive with a 320 GB on this VISTA basedt laptop. I originally tried cloning the 160 to the 320 from within VISTA and everything seemed to go fine until the very end (about 99% complete I think) when the process failed with an error message that said something to the affect "Attempt to handle too many NTFS attributes". I don't recall the error message number--just the message.
So I used Ghost 14 to back up the 160 GB drive and the process ended successfully. I then removed the 160 from the laptop, installed the 320, connected the backup drive to the laptop via USB, booted the laptop from the Ghost 14 CD, and started a restore from the USB drive with a request that the backup image be verified before doing the restore. Ghost verified the backup, validated the image data, copied all the image data, then displayed a process step that said something to the affect of "moving unused space". It was working on that, then the next time I looked I saw the error "EA3902DC: Attempt to handle too many NTFS attributes". I don't know if the initial attempt to clone the drive ended with the same error number as this failed restore attempt, but it was the same error message.
Any help with be much appreciated.
