Running Ghost 14 (and Norton 360 ver 3) on Toshiba Laptop, Vista Home Premium SP 2 (32bit).
Would greatly appreciate someone taking the time to give me some feedback on the following.
Got an error message when plugged in an external Western Digital 160GB (FAT 32) USB drive (a drive that had a Ghost backup on it) - message error to the effect: "backup and recovery service cannot reconcile changes". - yes I know I should have written down exact message :-( Have plugged in this drive many times before with no problem.
I was plugging in external drives for other purposes - I was NOT doing any work with Ghost (though 360 was running in background), and when it came time to "safely remove" the external drive it would not release (nor would the other two external USB drives -flash drives - that were plugged in at the same time. Had to turn the computer off. On reboot, no error message and all external drives seemed OK, and would release. Ghost also appears to be working properly.
This gives rise to a few questions:
1) what is the significance of the "cannot reconcile changes" error message - or is it just one of those ephermal computer glitches that I should ignore, and carry on as normal? Anyone else come across this error message?
2) I see one reference in the forum to a possible conflict between Norton 360 and Ghost 14. Has that been confirmed? Is it a general problem or only isolated cases?
3) If the problem arises again, is there some way to turn off the Ghost service (short of msconfig and re-boot) to see if that is what is hanging onto my external USB drives and preventing a safe removal? I tried disabling Norton 360 anti-virus and firewall (from rhe notifcation icon function list) just in case that was hanging on to my USB drives, but that did not relase the drives - had to re-boot the computer).
I also have questions on the procedure for un-installing Ghost 14, but I will do that in a separate post.
Many thanks for any assistance and advice.
