GHOST 14 - IRP of C drive ran in 2 hours; after reinstall runs >20 hours

Because of a problem I had with Norton Internet Security I needed to run the Norton Removal Tool to remove and then reinstall NIS.

After I ran the Norton Removal Tool I realized it had also removed my working Norton GHOST 14 install. (I realize V14 is discontinued, but am hoping someone might be able to give me some suggestions anyway).

So

1.  I reinstalled GHOST 14 from my product CD

2.  downloaded and installed the 1 (and only) service update that is available

3.  configured a backup job to create nightly Independent Recovery Points of my full C drive (only 80 gb in size) and I'm pretty sure I've used the same settings as I used to have, when the job used to run in less than 2 hours.

My Problem: The same task in the newly installed GHOST 14 environment is estimated to need to run for 21 hours. (The couple of times I've tried to run it, after a couple of hours of running, I've just cancelled it ... thinking I'll be able to figure out why it's taking so much longer now.

Anyone have any thoughts? They'd be much appreciated
