Hi all,
I am in need of some expert assistance on the usage of Ghost 14 for cold disc imaging.
Here is what I want to do:
I want to be able to clone my entire system disc, bit by bit, sector by sector, to an image file stored on a network drive (i.e. externally to my pc). It is very important to clarify that when I say "system disc", I am actually referring to two physical hard discs that are configured in a RAID1 array (for redundancy). In this RAID1 array, I then have installed 2 operating systems in dual boot configuration: (1) Windows XP 32-bit and (2) Windows Vista 64-bit.
These systems are each installed on their own partitions and the remainder of the space on the disc is unallocated non-partitioned space.
I also want to image my system disc (RAID1) by not booting in any of the systems that it holds (currently: Vista 64-bit, XP 32-bit), so that no files are accessed or locked.
I thought that the Ghost CD-ROM that came with my package would allow me to boot from it and then (with networking active) offer me a disc imaging backup option. But it doesn't. It seems that it can only assist with a restore operation, which is irrelevant to what I want to do.
I have tried to do a disc backup from NGh in Windows Vista - and it did make backups of my system partitions (which appears as disc letters in Vista, of course) but that is not exactly what I want.
I need to make sure that I have a cold image backup of the entire disc as one image (and not as separate partitions), in case something catastrophic happens to my system (e.g. PSU failure and subsequent system corruption), for which RAID1 will not cover me.
All assistance and input appreciated.
