Ghost 14 LiveUpdate breaks Ghost

I have Ghost 14 installed on a Vista Home Premium 64 bit edition.  When I use LiveUpdate, it downloads an update to Ghost14 and attempts to install the update.  Part way through, it fails with a Windows Installer fatal error:

Error 1706.No valid source could be found for product Norton Ghost.  The Windows Installer cannot continue.

I have uninstalled Ghost and Norton 360 and completely re-installed, per recommendation from the Norton support, and this has not helped (just wasted a lot of time).  I used the online Chat support, and the tech did a lot of things, with the end result that when my computer rebooted after he finished, it would no longer load login profiles and I could not log on to my machine.  Fortunately, I knew how to do a safe boot and used a recovery point to restore my system to proper operation (though Norton 360 and Ghost 14 were now broken.

I uninstalled all Norton products, and reinstalled and updated Norton 360.  Everything was fine.  I installed Norton Ghost 14 and it worked fine.  I ran the LiveUpdate again, and the same thing has happened again.  I am very frustrated, as I believe there is a severe problem with this latest update, but can not get useful help from Norton support.

Does anyone on this forum have any recommendations?

Thanks
