I'm running Ghost 14 (current version) on three computers, XP Pro SP3. Two computers are configured basically identically, with two internal drives, multiple partitions on each drive, an external backup drive, and another external drive (for movie editing). The third is a laptop, where Ghost works fine. The past few months, Ghost on one computer no longer recognizes the partitions on one of the internal drives. I used Partition Magic to reorganize partitions on both drives, and on both computers, but the problem is only with this one drive on one computer. As I recall, I deleted a couple of partions, as well as changed sizes, but this should no longer be an issue, after what I've gone through.
Today I have uninstalled/reinstalled Ghost multiple times including use of Norton Removal Tool (a real pain when you own several Norton products). Ran NRT three times in a row, then manually cleared out all Norton and Symantec files on the C drive, deleted all temp files, and even searched the registry and deleted every entry that mentiioned Ghost. Reinstalled Ghost and still the same problem.
Complicating the matter, after the latest reinstall, I responded to Ghost's entreaties to back up the C drive and My Documents. C drive was imaged in the usual fashion. My Documents actually points to the M drive, on the HD which Ghost does not see. The files were saved as a separate sub folder in the backup folder, containing vast quantities of fdf folders, each holding numerous fdf files rather than the images I expected to see.
As an aside, possibly relevent, I noticed today a file named Norton Backups on my backup HD. Normally backups are stored in Ghost Backups, which I saw was full, so I wonder if Norton created another folder on the backup HD to hold backups. I had set Ghost to delete backups automatically as the HD filled up, but obviously that setting had been changed by Ghost (I see in other postings that Ghost is prone to do that). Anyhow, these are all fdf format files, dated after the problem of non recognition of the HD. The fdf format is not very useful when you want to restore just one file or folder. Does anyone know how to determine the file/folder name of an fdf backup without using Ghost's recovery and restore?
So, what's going on? Mainly, I want Ghost to recognize the partitions on the HD which it currently cannot see (but obviously can access to save one partition in fdf format, rather than the more desireable image format). It's not a corrupted Ghost program, because I'm using the same program disk on on all three computers. I have a suspicion it's related to reorganizing the partitions, which included changing sizes and deleting a couple of them. But I changed sizes on other HD's without this Ghost problem. And I went through the uninstall/NRT/manual deletion process described above. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks
