I'll second the recommendation from Tony to assign an alias whenever using an external drive. If you don't, and the drive is ever assigned a diffrerent drive letter, Ghost can get confused and believe it is not there. Aliases avoid this problem.

I have a scheduled backup with an offsite location configured - which is a removable usb hard drive.
Sometimes Ghost correctly detects when I attach the usb hard drive and syncs the most recent backup to it.
However, the majority of the time, Ghost ignores the fact I connected the hard drive and does not resync back to it.
I used the Online Chat and the suggestion I was given was to run the backup manually after opening the offsite backup configuration screen and clicking OK without making any changes.
I'm trying that right now. But the backup is of 280GB of data and takes 4-6 hours to complete (with verification turned on).
And doing this everytime and so forth defeats the purpose of offsite backup and makes the entire feature very unreliable. Backup software should be reliable.
Is this a known bug in Ghost that will be corrected soon? I upgraded to Ghost 14 specifically because of this feature so it seems like my money was not very well spent based on the experience I'm having with it.
Anyone else having issues with offsite backups not syncing?
Have you setup a nickname (alias) for this USB drive? Do the drive letters change every time you attach it?
To remove or edit external drive aliases
1) On the main menu bar, click Tasks > Options.
2) Under Destinations, click External Drives.
3) Select an external drive from the list and then do one of the following:
- Click Remove to remove the alias associated with the external drive.
- Click Rename to modify the alias
This might be the problem with the detection. Please let me know how this helps. Thanks!
