I recently needed to expand a partition. I created a new base recovery point, which took about 2 hours and created a 182 GB backup. I deleted the partition, and then went to restore it. I used the recovery point browser to select the recovery point and then selected all of the directories in the root of the drive. That last night at 10:30. To my amazement it was still running when I got up and I just canceled it after 14 hours of CPU time and it was only about 50% done! I then re-ran it using Advanced/Recover Drive. To my pleasure it's restoring at a rate similar to the backup rate.
What the hell is the difference between then two? Why such a huge difference in performance?
