Erik,
I recently purchased an Intel X25-M SSD drive and Ghost 14. I was able to restore my HDD image (backed up with Ghost 14) to my new SSD drive. However, Ghost 14 errors out when attempting to perform backups of my SSD drive.
Does Ghost 14 not support SSD drive backup? Please advise.
Thanks,
Bruce
There should be no reason why it would error based specifically on the fact that this is a solid state drive. What errors do you see? Keep in mind that Ghost has a primary error and up to 3 secondary errors in it's error dialogs. If you could provide all or a screenshot that would help.
Hmmm... Solomon Jaddua of Symantec worked with me for about 2+ hours in remote control mode this past Saturday and could not get it to work. He told me that he would need to escalate the problem; but I have not heard from anyone today.
The error occurs about five seconds after initiating the backup, with progress showing 5%. The error is: "this operation cannot be performed while windows is running. You must complete this operation inside the recovery environment. Would you like to continue?" Nothing happens whether I answer yes or no. After Solomon and I parted, I checked the error log to find:
"5/30/2009 15:25:34 PM High Priority Error: Error EC8F17B7: Cannot create recovery points for job: Drive Backup of SSD-1 (C:\) (2). Error E0BB001B: Cannot lock volume \\?\Volume{8d73ec66-1f5e-11dc-a915-806d6172696f}\ because it contains the OS or has an active paging file. 0x800710F1 (Norton Ghost)"
Thus it appears that Ghost 14 is having some problem with getting a lock on the volume or with the VSS service, etc.
Finally, I decided to uninstal and re-install Ghost 14 in case something got corrupted. However, now the install program does not even run. Other software installs fine and no other known problems with the SSD. I will attempt to re-install again tonight and send you the resulting screen shot.
Thanks,
Bruce
