Hi all.
Yes, I do realize that there is an existing thread on this topic, but since it is LOCKED and does not seem to have a posted solution, I'm starting a new thread in hopes of getting a useful response.
I'm running Vista Home Premium on 2 of my 4 networked computers. I have been using Norton/Symantec products for years, and have been using Ghost since before Symantec bought it, when it was called Drive Image Pro. I can't tell you HOW MANY HOURS I have spent troubleshooting Norton software weirdness, and yet I still use the products. I like to think I've gotten good at figuring out how to fix the problems myself. But I have no clue how to fix this one.
Every time I run Ghost 14 on my brand new Vista box, it freezes at 5%. It will stay there for hours. When I look at the backup location, the "modified date" on the backup folder has been updated, but NO backup file has been created.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Ghost multiple times, using the "selective startup" option in Vista, to prevent installation conflicts. I have also run Fixinstall.bat, and let LiveUpdate update the version of Ghost so I'm runing the latest version. I have run all of the patches for Vista including SP2, and it's current. So the installation does not seem to be the problem.
Since I have 4 computers, I have tried using different backup locations, some on the network, some on the local machine, and still no joy. The backup job still freezes at 5% indefinitely, and does not create *any* backup files at all. So the backup location does not seem to be the issue.
Both of my Vista boxes are running the EXACT SAME version of Vista. The backups on my other Vista box are running fine, as scheduled, and creating usuable backups. So Vista, and the way I have Ghost configured, don't seem to be the problem. The only other software I have running on this box is streaming audio software, which barely even uses the processors or memory.
Clearly, I'm not the only person having this issue, and I'm about to ask for a refund. I may even finally give up on Norton products altogether. I've had enough of spending hours/days trying to fix issues with Norton software.
