Yes, It appears that you have at least two separate problems.  The first thing is the issues Ghost is having with your Drobo.  This is a device that we have not seen in house.  I've put in a request for one, but I don't know how long it will take to make it through all the red tape.  So, let me ask a couple of basic questions about this device.

  - When you connected it, what did you have to do to get it working?

  - Did you format it yourself or was it pre-formatted?

  - When do you get the warning you list below or what were the steps to getting it?

  - And have you verified that you are connected into a USB 2.0 port?

On the backup job itself, I don't believe the options the tech has you check will help, given the warning you received.  These options affect the source, not the destination.  Did the backup of C: complete without them?

Also, on the backup job, do you have Verify Recovery Point After Creation checked?  If so, when it got to the verify portion, somewhere in the 90's of percent completed, things would appear to hang.  The verify takes almost as long at the backup since all the data has to be read in from the source and destination to see if things are as they should be.  When you canceled the job, what you describe is normal behavior, i.e. the partially complete backup files get zapped since not everything was written out to the v2i that needs to be written out and we don't want to leave incomplete and useless backups laying around taking up space.

The thing that concerns me the most in all this is the warning that showed up.  That alone could be the cause for the performance issues you are seeing.

Thanks for the reply.

Regarding the USB 2.0 - the Drobo is connected to one of the main Dell USB port (not the USB board I installed in the PC). The Dell Dimension 8300 manual claims that these are all USB 2.0. (Do  you know an independent way to verify? Device Manager wasn't useful verifying whether the ports are really 2.0).

The Drobo was very simple to set up.  I connected power and USB connections, installed onto the PC the Drobo dashboard application that gives an overview of the Drobo and its drives, used Drobo dashboard to format the drives (NTFS), and then the Drobo shows up in my computer as one 2 TB drive.

I do have verify recovery point checked in the backup definitions.

I have not had a problem with the backup of C: drive.

The warning about the file system not identified on the Drobo shows up in the advanced tab, when I select the Drobo drive - I have a jpeg screenshot - how do I upload it for you?

Thanks.

Thanks.

Thanks.
