I just created a modified Recovery CD. When you complete this operation, there is a check box for Testing Recovery CD. However, all that it does is reboot the system so you can verify that you can reboot from the CD into the recovery environment. I don’t see any options in the recovery environment for testing a recovery point.

Thanks Mark.

Did you go ahead and try to recover your computer?

Pat

I bought Ghost a few days ago, created a custom version of the recovery disk with the drivers for my raid (a fakeraid with the nvidia 630i chipset) and for the gigabit nic. It has worked flawlessly in about 20 tests of recovery from both incremental and full backups :D

The only things:

- From the SRD I can map the network share which I use for off-site copies of my backups, but when I select "Recover computer" it only shows the backups made to the local disk. I am not sure if this is because the other backups on the NAS are off-site copies, so I will have to test this as well. Of course, I need to be sure I can also restore from the NAS directly, should something happen to the disks or to the raid (stripe) configuration.

- My system is Vista Ultimate x64, but I had to add to the custom disk the 32 bit versions of the drivers for the storage controllers and for the network card

- Every time I have restored, at startup Windows asked me if to start in safe mode, etc, or in normal mode. But then it goes on with no problems.

The only problem I have had so far, and which I am still investigating, is this.

You can open, within both the Windows GUI and the SRD, the recovery point explorer (or whatever it is called), and test the recovery points from there.
