I just bought the box, and thought I would go ahead and try the download trial version of Ghost 14. Had Ghost 9 installed on my WinXP 32bit SP3 AMD Athlon 64 with 1 GB RAM. Also have AnyDVD-HD, Zone Alarm, Bit Defender AV, and several Spyware (Spyware Blaster, Spybot S&D, AD Aware) installed.
I did not see an additional download to get the Rescue ISO setup, but will be getting retail box in a few days.
I downloaded NGH140_AllWin_EnglishTryBuy30.exe (Size: 89.2 MB (93,614,080 bytes) Digital Signature: Saturday, January 19, 2008 11:41:11 PM)
I launched install, and it first detected and uninstalled Ghost 9, then appeared to be installing Ghost 14 fine, until about 98% done--I think it was verifying installed files. Then Blue Screen with
STOP: 0x000000C4 (0x60, 0x0, 0x84, 0x02) This is apparently a Windows Verifier error code
I rebooted into SAFE Mode, and saw Ghost was apparently installed. So rebooted into my normal (administrator privs) XP account, and it seemed to be working. I could open Ghost 14, look at all the menus, and even looked at the Ghost Event Log which said
Info 6C8F0427: Norton Ghost service started successfully.
Details:
Source: Norton Ghost
I plugged in my USB-2 Seagate 750GB "Free Agent" drive to make a backup and a Windows Error Box pops up which says:
gearaspi.dll is not a valid windows image
VProTray.exe
Now I find this Google search talking about this issue here leading me to this Norton Forum Live Update LU problem, and wondering if this download ghost version has an out of date Gear Software. (I can see my CD/DVD drive in Win Explorer...but not sure how to test if problem is related to out of date Gear or a conflict with AnyDVD)
So I go to Gear Software's driver download here, and download the latest Driver Installer which I have not installed yet. I also downloaded the latest Norton Removal Tool from this link for Ghost 14 which I have not used yet.
I'm leaning towards uninstalling this trial version because the blue screen did not give me a nice warm feeling that everything installed properly. Then having the gearaspi.dll VProTray occur, makes me more concerned.
I know how important it is to provide feedback and logs, so before I do anything else, thought I would make this post and see if there is any advice or troubleshooting I can do which would be helpful.
Ghost 9 was working, but I wanted the capability of making a series of self-booting spanned DVD backups which I believe Ghost 14 can do (although I don't see an obvious choice so far to backup direct to optical media like an old SystemWorks version of Ghost used to do--which is another question I have)
Thanks in advance
