I spent quite a bit of time with Symantec Online Chat Tech support yesterday regarding my earlier post of Ghost 14 failing backup to a new Iomega single drive NAS. The drive is totally accessable via Windows Explorer for Read/Write and works great, with easy web management for the Linux system. Ghost 14 recognizes the drive and can create backup folders during configuration without any problems. Once you try to run the configured bu, even a small folder bu, it fails, notifying that it is not a directory and not a valid drive. The tech support person finally said that both the computer drive (NTFS) and the NAS (FAT32) have to have the same file structure. This apparently has to do with the 4GB file size limit of FAT32, but this is addressed by other backup software and Norton in the past. I can see how this would be an issue when creating an image of the boot drive, but should not be for backup purposes, I would think. I really want to use Ghost, rather than Retrospect on another bu software. The interface and management, including creating disaster recovery disks has improved, making it easy to manage. Ideas??????? Anyone???
